Dr. Ilana Sherer is a founding member of the UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center  (where she cares for patients at the Children's Hospital Oakland site) in addition to seeing patients at Palo Alto Medical Foundation/Sutter health in Dublin.  She has received various awards for this work, developed health care provider modules related to caring for GLBT and gender variant youth, and presents nationally and internationally on these topics. Dr. Sherer served on the Editorial Board for the national Trans Bodies, Trans Selves book project, a resource guide for the transgender community and works with families and youth on self-advocacy skills within the medical setting. She has also worked with the American Academy of Pediatrics to improve care for gender non-conforming youth, and currently serves on the executive committee for the AAP's Section on LGBTQ Health and Wellness.  She is a long time presenter at Gender Spectrum conferences. She has written and contributed to numerous articles, blog posts, and news stories on the subject for both professional and lay media.
